Viral Video: Fights and verbal spats frequently happen in cricket and sometimes they go way too beyond the line. In the Legends League Cricket 2022, former India all-rounder Yusuf Pathan too got himself into a similar instance. During an LLC 2022 Qualifier 1 match between India Capitals and Bhilwara Kings, Yusuf and former Australia pacer Mitchell Johnson almost got into a physical fight.

Australian pacer Johnson penalised of his match fees

Johnson was then penalised 50% of his match fees for engaging into the fight with Yusuf. The incident with Johnson, according to Australian media, was started when Yusuf Pathan threw an ugly sledge at Kim Cotton, a female umpire.

On Sunday, late in the first innings of their Legends League Cricket qualifier, Johnson and Yusuf Pathan, who played 57 ODIs and 27 T20s for India, had to be separated from each other. When Johnson’s third over’s final ball was not ruled a wide, Pathan became enraged.

After ducking under a short-pitched pitch and slamming 31 runs off of just 18, the right-hander became enraged and demanded an explanation from umpire Cotton. Pathan yelled at the umpire and then went over to his partner in the centre of the field before turning around and heading in Cotton’s direction.

Yusuf Pathan was pushed by Johnson

When Pathan confronted Johnson at the bowling crease, the Australian pushed the batter away from him before the batsman took offence to the sledging and stood over his opponent and spoke right Johnson in the face. Before Cotton was able to help Johnson away from the argument, the two still exchanged a lot of words. Watch the viral video below:

Johnson “did nothing,” according to a player in the match who wished to maintain his anonymity, and Pathan “was sledging the female umpires,” the player added.

Authortities issued a strong statement

The bowler was penalised and given a formal warning after the event was thoroughly investigated, according to the disciplinary committee, which was led by Legends League Cricket Commissioner Ravi Shastri.

Raman Raheja, CEO and Co-Founder of Legends League Cricket said, “We are here to promote serious and competitive cricket through this league. What happened yesterday on the ground during the qualifier match shouldn’t have happened. We have closely gone through the video multiple times before coming to any conclusion. I hope everyone gets a clear message that the spirit of the game is of prime importance and such things won’t get repeated in this league.”
