Virat Kohli: “Proud to wear this jersey..” Run machine shares an emotional post after humiliating defeat against England

Virat Kohli emotional post

Virat Kohli: After Team India’s elimination from the T20 World Cup following a defeat against England in the semifinals, star batsman Virat Kohli issued an emotional message on Friday. While the squad missed out on the World Cup, Kohli wrote in a tweet that they still learned a lot from an overall excellent tournament, even though the result hurts.

Virat Kohli shares an emotional post

“We leave Australian shores short of achieving our dream and with disappointment in our hearts but we can take back a lot of memorable moments as a group and aim to get better from here on,” Kohli tweeted. “Thank you to all our fans who turned up in huge numbers throughout to support us in the stadiums. Always feel proud to wear this jersey and represent our country.”

With 296 runs at an astounding average of 98.66, including four half-centuries, Kohli is the tournament’s top run scorer. While Kohli’s four fifty-plus scores in his last six innings represent a fantastic personal best since his comeback at the Asia Cup, the former India captain would have readily given up the title for a World Cup victory.

Kohli’s form haunted by unfortunate luck

Following the disappointments of the 2015 and 2019 50-over World Cups along with the World T20 in 2016 in India, this is Kohli’s fourth World Cup semi-final loss, just like the Indian team.

Despite leading the group after the group stage of the 2019 World Cup in England, Kohli had to face the heartbreak. Since delivering that famous comment about his idol Sachin Tendulkar during India’s 2011 World Cup victory, Kohli has only achieved just one ICC trophy, the Champions Trophy in 2013.

The year after, in 2014, Kohli was once again the star, scoring the most runs of any player in the T20 World Cup in Bangladesh with 319 runs. Despite being named the tournament’s Player of the Year, he was let down by Sri Lanka’s six-wicket victory over India in the final game.

Wait for the ICC trophy continues

India’s and Kohli’s best chance to win the World T20 was in 2016. Once more, Kohli’s bat erupted as, with 273 runs, he overtook Tamim Iqbal of Bangladesh as the second-highest run scorer. The unbeaten 82 Kohli scored against Australia in the quarterfinal of this competition, which is arguably his best T20 performance to date.

Kohli has been sensational through out the World cups but as fate would have wanted, he is yet to win a trophy.
