WFI election will be done by June 30, says Anurag Thakur

Wrestlers protesting against Wrestling Federation of India President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh met Sports Minister Anurag Thakur on Wednesday (June 7). In this meeting which lasted for about six hours, agreement has been reached between the two sides on many matters. Sports Minister Anurag Thakur informed after the meeting that in the conversation with the players, there was a discussion on filing charge sheet in the sexual harassment case by June 15.

Anurag Thakur said, “Positive talks with wrestlers have taken place on a very sensitive issue. The issues discussed in the meeting lasted for about six hours, the charge sheet should be filed by June 15 after completing the investigation of those allegations and the Wrestling Federation should be elected by June 30. The Internal Complaints Committee of Wrestling Federation should be formed and it should be headed by a woman.

These demands of the players were also discussed


The Sports Minister further said, “The wrestlers have demanded that all FIRs against them should be withdrawn. The wrestlers also requested that Brij Bhushan Singh, who has completed three terms, and his colleagues should not be re-elected. Wrestlers will not protest before June 15.

The country’s top wrestlers were openly fighting against Brij Bhushan Singh for 138 days. For the first time on January 18, Pahawan sat on dharna and on April 23 started the second dharna. After this the wrestlers faced the weather, clashed with the police. There was also an FIR against the wrestlers, but the protests continued. However, after a meeting between the wrestlers and Home Minister Amit Shah, the story changed and the wrestlers returned to work.

Story changed after May 28

In fact, on May 28, the wrestlers were going towards the new Parliament House to protest. The new Parliament House was being inaugurated on this day. When the police stopped them, they had a scuffle with the wrestlers. Delhi Police took all the wrestlers and their supporters into custody. After this, the belongings of the wrestlers were removed from Jantar Mantar. By evening all the female wrestlers and by night the male wrestlers were released. The wrestlers were not allowed to sit again at Jantar Mantar, but continued their protest. Meanwhile, it came to light that Brij Bhushan has faced several allegations of inappropriately touching and sexually assaulting female wrestlers. Meanwhile, Home Minister Amit Shah spoke with the wrestlers on June 4. On June 5, all the big wrestlers joined their government jobs.
