WPL: On Wednesday (January 25), the BCCI set a sort of milestone when they made a staggering Rs 4669.99 crore from the sales of five franchises in the first Women's Premier League (WPL). For Rs. 1289 crore, the Adani Sportsline business organisation acquired the most costly franchise. They are franchise owners in Ahmedabad. The league was earlier touted to be WIPL but Jay Shah confirmed that the name will be WPL (Women's Premier League).
Not to be forgotten, the present owners of the Mumbai Indians (MI), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), and Delhi Capitals (DC) successfully submitted bids to join the WPL for amounts of Rs 912.99 crore, Rs 901 crore, and Rs 810 crore, respectively. At the same time, Capri Global Holdings has joined the WPL after purchasing the Lucknow franchise for Rs 757 crore.
