Lovingly known as Lord Thakur has been in amazing form for the last four years. He is the only Indian bowler to take 50 wickets in an ODI since the completion of the ICC World Cup 2019. He has beaten bowlers like Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammed Siraj.

And after a sensational performance against West Indies in the ODI series. He took eight wickets in the series and achieved his career-best figures in the final ODI. Indian ex-opener and commentator Akash Chopra indicated his thoughts about these performances and the all-rounder's position in the upcoming World Cup.

The Ultimate Option

The ex-Indian opener revealed that, according to him, Thakur must be praised. The KKR all-rounder has performed wonderfully. And he should be the fourth pacer in the World Cup alongside Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Shami, and Mohammed Siraj.

The commentator also stated that he would have picked Umraan Malik, but his recent performances left much to be desired. If he can't pick himself up, playing in World Cup 2023 will be hard.

No Hardik Pandya For World Cup 2023?

This revelation by Aakash Chopra indicates he does not think of Hardik Pandya as the fourth pacer for Team India. Does that also mean he does not think Gujarat Titans are the captain of the Indian squad for the World Cup?

After all, Pandya has improved his bowling massively in the last few years and has also bowled in every situation. And he can be the team's perfect all-rounder and fourth bowling option. But if Shardul Thakur is picked in the playing XI, there might not be a place for Pandya as both offer the same role.
