World Cup 2023 Final: What Ahmedabad Crowd needs to Learn from Mumbai and Kolkata

World Cup 2023 Final: India hosted the World Cup for the very first time after more than ten years. Matches were held across the nation in 10 different cities and the final match between India and Australia was played in the Narendra Modi Stadium at Ahmedabad. However, Internet users observed the spiritless crowd of the stadium and slammed them on social media. Many compared them with the Wankhede Stadium and Eden Gardens stadium crowd.

Yesterday the most exciting match of the World Cup took place between the finalists India and Australia. The crowd at the stadium was unbelievably large. Just before the match, reports were coming in of hotel room price hikes and the tremendous crowd outside the Narendra Modi Stadium’s gates. However, despite such a huge crowd of fans in blue inside the stadium, it appeared to be quite dull and spiritless. Internet users around the world addressed this matter on X (formerly called Twitter) and compared the Ahmedabad crowd with that of Mumbai, Kolkatta, and other cities.

Internet users heavily criticized the Ahmedabad crowd for showing no support for the Indian Cricket Team. Producer Atul Kasbekar wrote, “Last word The Ahmedabad crowd was rubbish. Need proper fans inside a stadium instead of fly by night pretenders. Like the amazing people at Wankhede, proper fans. Cheered the team on and especially Shami post the dropped catch. Chanted his name nonstop. Boosted him and the team, energised them, lifted them when the Kiwis were looking ominous, Shami got 7 eventually. Last time out in Mumbai for a WC final, we won. Choose your venues wisely.”

Another user wrote that the stadium had fans from Mumbai as well who were disappointed at the crowd’s behavior. Whenever they started any chants, the crowd remained unresponsive and busy in their phones. One more X user wrote, “Pat Cummins : Even though the field was all blue, they didn’t make much noise. (1,32,000 Capacity) / Pakistan NT player Otis Khan : I have played in front of 30,000 spectators in England but 30,000 here in  India (Kanteerava) sounds like 60,000.”

Was part of the Ahmedabad crowd with a set of people from Mumbai. Even they were disappointed with the crowd. Each time they started a chant or anything, nobody followed up. Everyone, busy in their iphone clicking selfies and gulping pepsis

India’s reaction toward the Australian Cricket Team’s win

What’s more disrespectful is that when Australia won the match, Indians were being quite disrespectful toward the winners. Most of the people walked out even before the award ceremony.
