Wrestlers’ Late-Night Meeting with Amit Shah! Demand Arrest and Removal of Accused WFI Chairman

Wrestlers Protest

Wrestlers Protest: The top wrestlers in the nation met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah to urge action against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chairman and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who has been accused of harassing certain female athletes. The meeting between the belligerent wrestlers and the Home Minister reportedly took place on Saturday night. The discussion at Amit Shah’s house lasted until after midnight, and the participants pushed for an early chargesheet against Brij Bhushan.

Wrestlers Reassured of Swift Resolution to their Issues

After hearing what the wrestlers had to say, Amit Shah reassured them that their problems will be resolved quickly. The Union Sports Minister, Anurag Thakur, had earlier met with the wrestlers and told them that their accusations would be fairly investigated. The wrestlers attempted to immerse their medals in the Ganga in Haridwar days prior to the late-night meeting with Amit Shah, but were prevented by farmer leader Rakesh Tikait, who has given the authorities till June 9 to arrest Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. According to officials, farmers from the Bharatiya Kisan Union Ekta Puadh protested in Mohali’s Zirakpur town, calling for the arrest and removal of the WFI leader and the six-term BJP MP. Farmers shouted abuse at Brij Bhushan Singh and the federal government, alleging that they were supporting a politician who was being investigated for major crimes. ‘A leader facing such serious allegations is being defended by the administration.’

Farmer Leaders Stand in Solidarity with Wrestlers

According to a farmer leader, ‘this will set a bad example for subsequent generations and harm them.’ As this is a battle for the respect of women in the nation, the farmer leaders vowed that they will all stand in favour of the wrestlers. Another farmer leader declared, ‘We will support them as long as their struggle persists. This is a fight for our daughters and sisters.’ The federal government, according to the farmer leaders, was not upholding its motto, “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao.” Earlier, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot criticised the national government for its lack of concern for the suffering of the women wrestlers, claiming that the government was unconcerned about the wrestlers’ continued rallies calling for the arrest and dismissal of Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Singh.
