Maharashtra Politics: A fresh political storm has erupted in Maharashtra politics, with Aurangzeb’s grave at the centre of controversy. Hindu organisations like Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal have issued a strong ultimatum, demanding its removal from Aurangabad’s Khuldabad. The state government, led by CM Fadnavis, has taken a firm stance, while the Congress has strongly opposed these demands. With ultimatums from both Hindu organisations and Congress, the issue has become a significant flashpoint in Maharashtra politics.
Hindu Organisations Demand Removal of Aurangzeb’s Grave, Issue Ultimatum
Hindu organisations, particularly the VHP and Bajrang Dal, have intensified their demand for the removal of Aurangzeb’s grave, arguing that a ruler who persecuted Hindus should not have a memorial in Maharashtra. According to a report by News18, these groups have warned of action similar to the Babri Masjid demolition if their demand is ignored.
In response, the CM Fadnavis-led Maharashtra government has tightened security around Aurangzeb’s grave, deploying senior officials to prevent any untoward incidents.
Congress Slams CM Fadnavis Over Aurangzeb Controversy
As the controversy escalates, Congress has launched a sharp attack on the Maharashtra government. Congress spokesperson Atul Londhe Patil criticised CM Fadnavis, stating, “The law and order situation in Maharashtra is deteriorating. Farmers are struggling without electricity and water, unemployment is at an all-time high, and to distract from these issues, the BJP keeps bringing up Hindu-Muslim debates.”

He further accused the government of diverting people’s attention, saying, “They moved workers’ savings from PF and pension schemes to the share market, making the common man poorer in just five months. Now, they are using historical controversies to cover up real issues. The people will not fall for this distraction anymore.”
Congress’s strong opposition has intensified the political battle, adding another layer of complexity to Maharashtra politics. Many now see this as an ultimatum from Congress to the CM Fadnavis government.
How the Aurangzeb Grave Controversy Started
The current turmoil in Maharashtra politics began when Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA Abu Azmi referred to Aurangzeb as a “great ruler.” His statement enraged followers of Chhatrapati Shivaji, who condemned his remarks. This triggered heated debates, with Hindu organisations, Congress, and the BJP engaging in accusations and counter-accusations.
With Maharashtra politics now dominated by this issue, the focus remains on how CM Fadnavis will navigate the growing pressure from both Hindu organisations and the opposition. As ultimatums fly from both sides, all eyes are on the government’s next move regarding Aurangzeb’s grave.
