Bhagwant Mann accuses Akal Takht Jathedar of aiding Badals-controlled SGPC

Bhagwant Mann: According to today’s allegations by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the Jathedar of Akal Takht Giani Harpreet Singh was aiding the “Badals-controlled Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC).” The response came a day after the Jathedar gave the Punjab Government a 24-hour deadline for freeing the prisoners in the case involving Amritpal Singh, the pro-Khalistan activist who was on the run. Also, he had asked the government to drop the charges brought against them under the National Security Act (NSA).

Bhagwant Mann tweeted about Akal Takht

CM Mann in his Tweet said, “The history shows that the Badals have abused the position of Jathedars for their personal benefits… It would have been nice in case you issued the ultimatum (to the government) for acting on the cases relating to sacrilege or disappearance of the ‘swaroops’ of Guru Granth Sahib and not for provoking the happy and contented public.” Responding to the CM’s Tweet, the jathedar of the Akal Takht said, “Mr Chief Minister, we will discuss politics later. Let us now save Punjab and reunite innocent youth with their waiting mothers and get their blessings.”

SGPC Members voted a motion

Members of the SGPC voted a motion criticising the government for its treatment of Sikh youths during the budget session. The provision of free legal counsel to the young people who had been arrested was announced. It demanded the return of Sikh social media accounts that had been disabled following the crackdown on Amritpal and his supporters. Also, the SGPC recommended that the government take harsh measures against people who incite hatred towards Sikhs on social media.
