Mishra wrote, “May God spare even enemy’s children from this disease… I am not able to save the children, I do not want to live anymore.”

His acquaintances, who read the post, rushed to his house in Bunty Nagar area, where they found Mishra, his wife Neelam (42) and two sons aged 13 and 7, unresponsive, said the police.

All of them were rushed to the district hospital where they died during treatment, said the police.

Incurable genetic disease

Collector Umashankar Bhargava told the media that Mishra’s sons suffered from a genetic disease called muscular dystrophy, which is said to be incurable.

In a suicide note, Mishra said he does not want to live as he can’t save his sons, said Bhargava.

Mishra, his wife and both the children consumed sulphas tablets. Sulphas is an agricultural fumigant.

Additional Superintendent of Police Sameer Yadav said they have registered a case and investigations were on.

Duchenne muscular dystrophy

Duchenne muscular dystrophy is an inherited disorder. It involves muscle weakness, which quickly worsens. It is caused by a defective gene for dystrophin (a protein in the muscles). However, it often occurs in people without a known family history of the condition.

The condition most often affects boys due to the way the disease is inherited. The sons of women who are carriers of the disease (women with a defective gene, but no symptoms themselves) each have a 50% chance of having the disease. The daughters each have a 50% chance of being carriers. Very rarely, a female can be affected by the disease

Duchenne muscular dystrophy occurs in about 1 out of every 3,600 male infants. Because this is an inherited disorder, risks include a family history of Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
