The incident occurred early on Monday, when a huge chunk of the mountain suddenly gave way due to recent heavy rainfall in the region. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported so far, though vehicular movement has been brought to a complete halt. Emergency services rushed to the spot and began clearing operations immediately.
Videos circulating online show huge boulders and debris scattered across the road, making it completely inaccessible. Local authorities have advised people to avoid traveling through the area until the situation is brought under control.
The district administration has initiated a prompt response, deploying disaster management teams and machinery to remove the debris and restore connectivity. “Efforts are underway to clear the road. We urge people to stay alert and avoid unnecessary travel in vulnerable areas,” said a district official.
Himachal Pradesh, known for its mountainous terrain, often witnesses landslides during monsoon and pre-monsoon spells. The latest incident adds to the growing concerns over infrastructure and environmental vulnerability in the hilly state.
Authorities have also issued an alert in nearby regions, cautioning residents to stay away from steep slopes and unstable land zones.
Further updates are awaited as rescue and restoration work continues.
The affected area lies along a route frequently used by commuters and transporters. With the road now buried under tons of debris, movement of essential goods and services has been hampered. Local businesses and residents who rely on this route for daily supplies are likely to face shortages if the situation persists.
Authorities have mobilized heavy earthmoving equipment and disaster response teams to begin clearance operations. Officials stated that restoring connectivity is a top priority. However, the process is expected to take time due to the volume of debris and the risk of further slides.
