With the 18th BRICS Summit underway at Bharat Mandapam, the national capital is witnessing one of its biggest security and logistics operations in recent years, as India hosts the summit for the first time as chair, having taken over the presidency from Brazil earlier this year.

Why Chanakyapuri Is The Nerve Centre
The diplomatic hub of Chanakyapuri, home to most foreign embassies, is expected to see the heaviest movement of VIP convoys, making it ground zero for the security clampdown. Delhi Police has flagged more than 35 roads for traffic control and marked 22 diversion points across the city to manage the flow of delegations safely.
Roads Commuters Should Avoid
Motorists are being asked to steer clear of major stretches feeding into the New Delhi district, with diversions active around Dhaula Kuan, Mandi House, Lodhi Road, Neela Gumbad, and Patel Chowk. Roadside parking within 200 metres of any controlled road has also been banned for the duration of the summit.
Metro Emerges As The Safer Bet
For anyone heading to the airport, police have strongly recommended the Metro over road travel, given the scale of disruption expected. Alternate routes have also been laid out for commuters travelling to New Delhi and Old Delhi railway stations, and public transport and buses will keep running with diversions wherever needed.

Beyond the traffic story, the summit itself carries weight. Leaders from the 11-nation bloc are expected to discuss cooperative and sustainable growth frameworks, deepening the economic and diplomatic conversation that has defined BRICS expansion in recent years.
