The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that Cyclonic Storm ‘Midhili’ has weakened into a deep depression over Tripura and adjacent areas in Bangladesh. It is anticipated to move north-northeast over South Assam, affecting Mizoram and Tripura in the next six hours.
“Cyclonic Storm “Midhili” weakened into a Deep Depression over Tripura and adjoining Bangladesh about 50 km N-NE of Maijdicourt (Bangladesh), and 60 km S-SE of Agartala,” the IMD said in its bulletin.
Cyclonic system is expected to pass through Sunderbans
The cyclonic system is expected to pass through the Sunderbans before making landfall on the Bangladesh coast. Mizoram’s district administrations and disaster management authorities have issued alerts, urging people to stay vigilant and take precautionary measures. A red alert has been issued in four districts of Tripura.

The IMD’s forecast predicts 51 mm of rain in Aizawl district between November 17 and 18, with heavy rainfall expected in other districts like Champhai, Kolasib, Lawngtlai, and Mamit. Agartala, the state capital, has already recorded 87 mm of rainfall since Thursday evening.
The name ‘Midhili’ was assigned by the Maldives, following the naming sequence adopted by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and member countries of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission (ESCAP) for cyclones in the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal.
