The new e-buses, part of the Delhi Transport Corporation's (DTC) expanding green fleet, are equipped with modern amenities such as zero-emission technology, CCTV cameras, GPS tracking, panic buttons, and accessible boarding features for the differently-abled.
Our aim is to make public transport not only efficient and safe
Speaking at the launch event, CM Gupta said, “This is another major step in our mission for a pollution-free Delhi. Our aim is to make public transport not only efficient and safe but also environmentally responsible.”
With this addition, Delhi’s e-bus fleet crosses a key milestone, bringing the total number of electric buses operating in the city closer to the government’s ambitious target of 2,000 by 2025. The initiative is part of the broader Delhi Electric Vehicle Policy, which emphasizes clean transport and reduction of vehicular emissions.
The newly inducted buses will be deployed on major routes across Delhi to improve last-mile connectivity and reduce dependency on fossil-fuel-based vehicles.
The buses are manufactured under the FAME-II (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles) scheme, backed by the central government. Each bus can run over 120–150 km on a single charge and will be recharged using solar-powered depots where feasible, further enhancing Delhi's renewable energy goals.
Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot, who was also present at the event, noted that efforts are underway to increase the number of electric charging stations across the city to support the growing fleet. “We are working to make Delhi a role model for other states in adopting sustainable urban transport,” he said.
