Delhi: Keshavpuram, Karol Bagh open record number of restaurants in one year, MCD's revenue increased by five times

Delhi MCD news: After easing the process of providing licences to open restaurants, dhabas and hotels in Delhi, the hospitality industry in the country has seen a huge boom. In one year alone, online licences have been issued to more than 5100 people, while licenses of 4226 have been renewed. Licenses have now been issued to around 9337 people in total in Delhi. This has helped MCD earn a revenue of Rs 15,30,16,168. Karol Bagh and Keshavpuram are two zones which have the maximum number of online licenses to open restaurants. Meanwhile, West Delhi and Central Delhi have the least number of applicants.

Karol Bagh has most number of applicants

The simplification of online licensing process has helped many people apply to the MCD to open restaurants, dhabas, hotels or other businesses in Delhi. A total of 9337 licenses were issued and renewed by the MCD during the financial year (April 1, 2022 to March 31, 2023).Of these, 5153 licenses have been issued online. Most applicants who applied for online licenses have applied for fresh license only. Karol Bagh tops in Delhi in issuing the maximum number of licenses with 1526 new licenses. In the West Zone, only 76 people have issued the fresh license. People in the Central Delhi are also not keen in opening new restaurants and dhabas.

MCD's revenue increased by five fold

With MCD's move to issue licenses online, the restaurant and health trade saw unprecedented growth in Delh. Additionally, MCD's revenue has also been increased by five fold. Earlier, MCD hardly used to get Rs 2.5 to 3 crore during a year from health trade license. The revenue of MCD in health trade during the financial year 2022-23 is Rs 15,30,16,168.
