Delhi News:Delhi is set to experience a renewed spell of winter chill as temperatures are expected to dip sharply over the next few days, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The cold wave conditions are being driven by fresh western disturbances, bringing rain to the plains and snowfall to the higher reaches of North India.
Temperature Drop Likely Across Delhi-NCR
Delhi News: IMD forecasts suggest that minimum temperatures in Delhi could fall by 2–4 degrees Celsius, with chilly northerly winds intensifying the cold wave effect. Daytime temperatures are also expected to remain below normal, making mornings and evenings particularly cold across the national capital and surrounding NCR regions.
DON'T MISS
Rain in Plains, Snowfall in Hills
A western disturbance moving across northwest India is expected to trigger light to moderate rainfall in Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, and western Uttar Pradesh. At the same time, moderate to heavy snowfall is predicted in parts of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Jammu & Kashmir. This weather system is likely to persist for the next 48–72 hours.
Will Cold Winds Clear Delhi’s Air?
One positive outcome of the changing weather could be an improvement in Delhi’s air quality. Increased wind speed and rainfall may help disperse pollutants, offering temporary relief from smog. Early indicators suggest the Air Quality Index (AQI) could shift from the “poor” to “moderate” category if conditions remain favourable.
IMD Advisory for Residents
IMD has advised residents to take precautions against cold wave conditions, especially during early morning and late-night hours. People with respiratory issues, children, and the elderly are urged to limit prolonged outdoor exposure. Farmers have also been alerted about possible crop stress due to falling temperatures.
What to Expect Next
Meteorologists say that while the cold wave may intensify briefly, temperatures could stabilise after the western disturbance moves eastward. However, winter conditions are expected to linger, with intermittent cold days likely through the week.
