Delhi Pollution: Severe air pollution is still affecting daily activities in Delhi. Saturday morning saw most areas of Delhi with an AQI of greater than 380, well over the point of being classified as hazardous by most agencies. Most officials and experts expect that air quality will continue to deteriorate, with the potential of moving into the most critical levels in the days ahead.
Reduced visibility affects travel systems
The dense blanket of smog and fog has caused flights to be grounded at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport due to a low-visibility visibility and the cancellation of many flights. Due to ongoing bad weather conditions caused by dense smog is being cited by airlines as a reason to encourage customers to check flight status prior to going to the airport. Waiting for trains that must pass through heavy fog/smog has also caused delays in train schedules, with some trains arriving hours late due to travel delays from their inability to move quickly enough through the extreme fog/smog conditions.
Road transportation affected this area
Major roads that run through New Delhi and the southern NCR surrounding it are experiencing a lot of fog, making drivers have to turn their car headlights on during the day and slowing traffic. Drivers are also having a hard time trying to navigate in the extremely dense fog that envelops this region during the early morning.
The residents of this city have been told to refrain from doing outdoor activities
This requires physical exertion, and staying indoors as much as possible until the weather improves. Forecasts indicate that there will be fog and very little wind (if any), so air quality will likely remain poor. If conditions don’t improve, local authorities may implement additional measures to reduce pollution levels.
