Delhi PWD Authorities raze illegally built Hanuman Temple and Mazaar Amid Strong Security Presence

Delhi News: In the early hours of Sunday morning, the Public Works Department (PWD) dismantled an illegally constructed Hanuman Temple and Mazar in the city’s Bhajanpura neighbourhood. The Public Works Department is reportedly carrying out the continuing demolition work (Delhi PED Anti Encroachment Drive). The PWD department has issued an order for the removal of any unlawfully constructed or religious organisations’ encroached onto sacred sites in Delhi.

Road Widening Prompts Removal of Hanuman Temple and Mazar

Joy N Tirkey, DCP Northeast said Speaking on the drive, “Demolition drive is underway peacefully at Bhajanpura Chowk. A decision was taken by the Religious Committee of Delhi to remove a Hanuman Temple & a Mazar to further widen the road for Saharanpur Highway. Both structures are removed peacefully.” According to him, the Delhi Religious Committee decided to demolish both buildings from Bhajanpura Chowk because the road needed to be enlarged for the Saharanpur Highway work, which is currently under way.

“Everything was done peacefully,” Tirkey continued. “The decision (to remove the mazar and temple) was approved by the Religious Committee and this demolition drive was carried out following the orders of the Lieutenant Governor (of Delhi),” said Sharat Kumar, the Seelampur SDM. There were no issues because it was done amicably.
