Delhi is bracing for yet another harsh summer day on Monday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting clear skies, strong surface winds, and dust-laden conditions across the National Capital Region (NCR).

Temperature Soars Above Normal

On Sunday, Delhi’s maximum temperature touched 42.1°C, which is 2.1 degrees above the seasonal average, while the minimum temperature stood at 27.7°C, the IMD reported. The heatwave-like conditions are expected to continue on Monday, with temperatures projected to peak around 43°C. The minimum temperature is likely to hover near 28°C, offering little relief during the night.

Dusty Winds to Reduce Visibility

Adding to the discomfort, dust-laden winds are forecast to sweep across the region, reducing visibility and making life more difficult for residents already grappling with the relentless heat. These strong winds are typical during pre-monsoon spells in North India but pose additional health concerns, particularly for those with respiratory issues.

Humidity and Air Quality

The relative humidity was recorded at 31% at 5:30 pm on Sunday, reflecting dry conditions that amplify the effect of heat. Meanwhile, Delhi’s air quality remained in the “moderate” category as per the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), with an Air Quality Index (AQI) reading of 198 at 6 pm. However, dusty conditions may worsen the air quality further in the coming hours.

Residents are advised to stay hydrated, avoid direct sun exposure, and wear protective gear if stepping outdoors. Vulnerable groups, including children, the elderly, and those with respiratory illnesses, should exercise caution.

According to IMD officials, there is no immediate forecast of rain, and the current heat spell may persist through the week. However, western disturbances or pre-monsoon showers may bring relief by mid-June. Until then, Delhiites will have to brave the soaring temperatures and dusty skies.
