Farmer Protest: Tension at Shambhu Border Eases as Farmers Announce March Towards Delhi

Farmer Protest: The Shambhu border, connecting Haryana and Punjab, witnessed heightened tension earlier today; however, a sigh of relief follows as farmers have announced their march towards Delhi. Despite the initial standoff, the government has once again proposed talks, contributing to a semblance of peace at the Shambhu border.

Tension at Shambhu Border Eases as Farmers Announce March Towards Delhi

Amid ongoing discussions among farmer leaders, Gurnam Singh Chaduni, affiliated with the United Farmers’ Front, has welcomed the government’s offer for dialogue. Agriculture Minister Arjun Munda, expressing openness to discussions, stated that they are prepared to engage in talks on all issues, including Minimum Support Price (MSP) and stubble burning. Munda emphasized the government’s commitment to continuous dialogue, urging farmers to come forward for discussions.

Farmers are not advancing further

However, at present, the farmers are not advancing further, and the police have suspended their action. The situation on both sides of the Shambhu border appears relatively calm after the central government’s proposal. Police continue to maintain vigilance, refraining from the use of tear gas, and the farmers are conducting peaceful demonstrations with tractors and jeeps.

The current developments follow the farmers’ attempt to breach barricades using JCBs and tractors. In response, the police issued warnings to dismantle the barricades, and if not complied with, strict action would be taken. The Shambhu border, situated in Haryana’s Ambala district, is a key route connecting Punjab, and the ongoing farmer gatherings have led to inconvenience for commuters traveling to Chandigarh. The situation remains fluid, with authorities monitoring developments closely.
