Kanchanjunga Express Accident: In Siliguru, Bengal, on Monday, a Kanchanjunga Express train collided, resulting in five fatalities and close to twenty-five injuries. The tragedy occurred in Siliguri's Rangapani area when a cargo train struck the train from behind when it was traveling to the Sealdah station in Kolkata. The Kanchanjunga Express was traveling from the New Jalpaiguri Station to Sealdah when it collided.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Expresses Concern

Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of Bengal, expressed concern about the disaster and said that ambulances, physicians, and district magistrates had been brought to the scene.

"Shocked to learn, just now, about a tragic train accident, in Phansidewa area of Darjeeling district. While details are awaited, Kanchenjunga Express has reportedly been hit by a goods train. DM, SP, doctors, ambulances and disaster teams have been rushed to the site for rescue, recovery, medical assistance. Action on war-footing initiated," she tweeted.

Sealdah Eastern Railway Sets Up Control Desk

Following the collision between the Kanchenjunga Express train and a cargo train at Ruidhasa in the Darjeeling district, Sealdah Eastern Railway establishes a control desk at Rangapani station.

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw's Statement on Train Accident

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw tweets, "Unfortunate accident in NFR zone. Rescue operations going on at war footing. Railways, NDRF and SDRF are working in close coordination. The injured are being shifted to the hospital. Senior officials have reached the site."

Rescue efforts are in progress despite the intense rain, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) informed India Today. An emergency medical team has been dispatched to the area of the mishap. Additionally, a support desk has been established at Sealdah station in relation to the issue.
