Apple’s top global manufacturing partner, Foxconn, is planning to set up a major manufacturing facility in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. The company is exploring a 300-acre site along theYamuna Expressway. If the project proceeds, it would be Foxconn’s first establishment in North India and is likely to be larger than its upcoming facility in Bengaluru. The plan aligns with India’s rise as a global electronics manufacturing destination and reflects the company’s strategy to diversify operations outside China.
A New Economic Engine for Uttar Pradesh?
This proposed development is expected to act as a catalyst for Uttar Pradesh’s industrial growth. The state stands to gain immensely in terms of job creation, infrastructure expansion, and increased private investment. With Greater Noida already emerging as a significant electronics manufacturing hub, Foxconn’s entry could further accelerate the state's transformation into a national and global manufacturing powerhouse. The proximity to the upcoming Jewar International Airport and well-connected expressways enhances the strategic value of the location, making it a magnet for supply chains and logistics.
Strengthening India's Electronics Ecosystem
The facility is expected to support India’s electronics manufacturing services (EMS) sector by adding scale and efficiency. It falls in the same industrial zone where a semiconductor joint venture has already secured land, creating a larger electronics ecosystem in the region. By expanding its footprint in India, Foxconn is tapping into a supportive policy environment, a skilled labour force, and a rapidly growing consumer market. This move will help reduce reliance on imports and bring more value-added manufacturing into the country.
India’s Global Manufacturing Role Expands
This development also comes at a time when India is playing a growing role in global supply chains, with Apple now producing iPhones worth $22 billion annually within the country. As companies look to move operations out of China, India—and particularly states like Uttar Pradesh are becoming attractive alternatives. Foxconn’s proposed investment is a clear sign of confidence in India’s future, and its presence in Greater Noida will likely encourage more companies to follow, amplifying the long-term economic gains for the state and the nation.
