Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Media Incharge Anurag Dhanda has strongly criticised the Haryana government’s decision to assign school teachers the task of counting stray dogs, calling it a “poor-minded and unfortunate decision” that undermines the dignity of the teaching community.

Addressing the media in Rohtak, Dhanda said that teachers are meant to shape the future of children, not to be burdened with administrative duties unrelated to education. He alleged that the BJP-led Haryana government is deliberately shifting non-educational responsibilities onto teachers, which directly affects the quality of education in government schools.

Dhanda further accused the government of systematically weakening public education by diverting teachers’ time and energy away from classrooms. “Such decisions not only disrespect educators but also put the future of children at risk,” he said, adding that repeated imposition of unrelated tasks reflects a lack of seriousness towards education reforms.

On environmental issues, Anurag Dhanda stated that both the BJP and Congress have been responsible for exploiting the Aravalli region over the years. However, he welcomed the Supreme Court’s intervention to halt activities that damage the ecologically sensitive Aravalli range, calling it a necessary step to protect the environment from political and commercial interests.

The AAP leader demanded that the Haryana government immediately withdraw the order assigning stray dog census duties to teachers and focus on strengthening schools, improving infrastructure, and ensuring quality education. He said governance decisions should be people-centric and respectful of professional roles, especially those directly linked to children’s futures.

Dhanda’s remarks have added to the growing political debate in Haryana over the use of government teachers for non-academic tasks and the broader priorities of the state administration.
