Ayushman Bharat Yojana Halted in Haryana’s Private Hospitals, Check Why ?

Ayushman Bharat Yojana has been suspended as of August 6, in over 650+ private hospitals within Haryana, owing to 470 crores in arrears. The move has affected more than 1.8 crore beneficiaries.

This article discusses that the Ayushman Bharat Yoiana (PMJAY) has been suddenly halted in over 650 private hospitals across Haryana starting midnight of 6th August, 2025. Owing to this fact, more than 1.8 crore poor and middle-class individuals have since failed to access free treatment under the scheme.

Ayushman Bharat Scheme Off-Track in Haryana

In Haryana, Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) has come to a screeching halt. Since midnight of August 6, over 650private hospitals are no longer providing any services under the scheme. This has been distressing millions of low-income households, who are unable to receive cashless treatment by using their Ayushman cards.

What Led to the Suspension?

The real cause of the disruption is the outstanding dues. The Indian Medical Association(IMA) Haryana has alleged that the state government has not been paying 490 crore to the private hospitals under the scheme. IMA also states that the amount of money that is given as a budget is way lower than what is required. IMA, in a letter dated 28 July, said that unless a solution was worked out, the hospitals would shut down operations as of midnight on 7 August, and they did.

Government’s Stand:

The government acknowledged that it owes 470 crores in pending payments, but said this was due to missing documents. They have released 245 crores, which is not satisfactory to IMA. Previous claims of a 2500 crores annual budget continue to fall short.

View of the Hospitals:

Hospitals report that they have to shut down owing to nonpayment. They are willing to assist the scheme, but they are not able to proceed without adequate finance.

Demand for IMA:

IMA seeks interest when money is not paid on time, and the government has declined this request. The meeting on August 14 will decide whether services will resume.

Effects on Patients:

It requires poor patients to pay in cash because Ayushman cards are not accepted, except in emergencies.
