Gurugram Metro: The Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation (HMRTC) has approved the preparation of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs), bringing much joy to the residents of Gurugram and Delhi NCR.
Two major metro corridors have been announced that would be aimed at easing traffic congestion and improving connectivity across the Millennium City.
Rail India Technical and Economic Service (RITES) emerged as the sole bidder when HMRTC invited tenders for preparing the DPRs for these metro corridors earlier this year.
Gurugram Metro-Two New Metro Corridors
The first Gurugram Metro corridor will run from Bhondsi to the Gurugram Railway Station. It will cover a distance of around 17 kilometers and pass through important locations such as Subhash Chowk, Rajiv Chowk, and Sohna Chowk. By doing this, it will connect several densely populated and high-traffic areas.
The second corridor will span approximately 13.6 kilometers. It will link Golf Course Extension Road to Sector 5 via the Millennium City Centre Metro Station. The corridor will help improve east-west connectivity while providing smoother access to important residential and commercial hubs.
What Next?
A comprehensive traffic and commuter study along both routes will be conducted by HMRTC before the DPRs get finalized. This assessment by HMRTC will analyze existing traffic pressure, passenger demand and connectivity gaps. This will help ensuring that the proposed metro lines align with actual travel needs. The study’s findings will play an important role in ascertaining station locations, overall route feasibility and interchange points.
Gurugram will steadily progress toward a more commuter-friendly and connected future with these new projects being underway.
