Haryana News : Haryana Government Seals Borders and Imposes Restrictions to Prevent Farmers’ Protest Movement

Haryana News: In a move to thwart the upcoming Dilli Chalo protest by Punjab farmers on February 13, the Haryana government has taken stringent measures, including sealing borders and imposing restrictions on public assembly. This action has elicited criticism from various quarters, including political leaders such as Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann and Congress’s Priyanka Gandhi.

Key Measures Taken:

  1. Border Sealing: Following the earlier closure of the Patiala-Ambala border on the GT Road, Haryana authorities expanded their efforts by blocking state highways and link roads connecting Punjab and Haryana. Multi-layer concrete walls, barbed wires, and police barricades have been installed to restrict movement.
  2. Section 144 Imposed: Haryana has imposed Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) in 15 districts, prohibiting the assembly of five or more people. This is aimed at preventing any demonstrations or marches, particularly on tractor-trolleys.
  3. Fortification of Borders: Law enforcement authorities in Haryana have fortified interstate borders with heavy police deployment and dug up large tracts of land to impede alternate routes for farmers.

Immediate Impact:
The swift action has stranded a significant number of trucks on either side of the state border. Although some link roads are open to traffic, heavy vehicles are not permitted.

Political Backlash:
Political leaders, including Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, and Priyanka Gandhi from the Congress party, have criticized these measures, expressing concerns about the impact on the farmers’ right to protest.

Ongoing Situation:
Despite the restrictions, farmers from certain villages in Bathinda and Moga districts have started their journey, leaving for Delhi after holding prayers at gurdwaras on Sunday. The situation remains tense as both states navigate the complex dynamics surrounding the farmers’ protest movement.
