Lok Sabha Election 2024: Fact Check: Claim of Deducting ₹350 from Bank Accounts of Non-Voters False

The Press Information Bureau (PIB) Fact Check team clarified that no such decision has been taken by the Election Commission.

Lok Sabha Election 2024: The claim circulating on social media platforms alleging that the Election Commission of India (ECI) will deduct ₹350 from the bank accounts of non-voters in the Lok Sabha elections is false.

Claim of Deducting ₹350 from Bank Accounts of Non-Voters False

The Press Information Bureau (PIB) Fact Check team clarified that no such decision has been taken by the Election Commission. The claim suggesting the deduction of money from bank accounts for not voting is misleading and should not be shared further.

According to the PIB Fact Check team, in case voters do not participate in the electoral process, the expenses incurred by the Election Commission, which include conducting elections, will be recovered. However, this will not involve deducting money from bank accounts. Instead, the amount will be collected through mobile phone recharges for those without bank accounts.

It has been further emphasized that the Election Commission has already obtained approval from the court regarding this matter, making it legally binding. Therefore, there is no scope for filing petitions against this decision.
