Successful Trial Run Conducted

The Jammu to Srinagar Vande Bharat train trial run was conducted last month after receiving approval from the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS). This development comes after the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project was authorized for passenger and freight operations.

Initially, the Indian Railways had planned to operate the train between Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra (SVDK) and Srinagar. However, Northern Railway General Manager Ashok Kumar Verma has confirmed that the service will eventually be extended to Jammu Tawi.

Route and Speed Specifications

The Vande Bharat train for Kashmir has been manufactured by Chennai-based Integral Coach Factory (ICF) and is designed to run at a maximum speed of 160 kmph. However, due to operational constraints in the hilly region, the maximum permissible speed for the train has been set at 85 kmph on the main line and 15 kmph on turnouts.

Enhanced Connectivity for Jammu and Kashmir

The launch of the Vande Bharat train in Jammu and Kashmir is a significant step toward modernizing rail transport in the region. It will provide fast, efficient, and comfortable travel for passengers commuting between Jammu, Katra, and Srinagar, boosting tourism and economic activities in the Union Territory.

With its distinctive orange and grey design, the train is expected to enhance connectivity and reduce travel time, making it easier for pilgrims, tourists, and locals to traverse the region. The commencement of its commercial operations will mark a new era of railway development in Kashmir.
