Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced the Cabinet’s decision after its meeting. The proposal seeks to associate the airport’s identity with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The airport was earlier known as Noida International Airport and is commonly referred to as Jewar Airport because of its location. The renaming proposal marks a change in the name under which the major infrastructure project will be identified.

The airport is a significant infrastructure project intended to improve air connectivity for Noida, Greater Noida and other parts of western Uttar Pradesh, while supporting the wider Delhi-NCR region.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the airport’s first phase on March 28, 2026. The project is expected to support passenger travel, cargo movement, trade and economic activity as its facilities expand.
