Jharkhand has made impressive headway in its battle against Naxalism, where police and security forces have had major successes through continuous operations against Maoist groups. The state government of Chief Minister Hemant Soren has continued its drive to enhance security, bring peace to the affected areas, and improve the lives of local populations.
Jharkhand Police Achieve Major Success Against Naxalism
Security forces have carried out multiple security operations in the Naxal-affected areas, including the Saranda forests of West Singhbhum. These security operations have supported the government’s efforts to decimate Maoist activities and restore security in these areas.
Joint Operations Enhance Security In Jharkhand
The joint effort between Jharkhand Police, CRPF, CoBRA, and Jharkhand Jaguar has been a significant aspect of this campaign against Naxalism. Security forces conducted intelligence-based operations and created forward operating bases to cut down the Maoist movement. In January 2026, in a major operation in West Singhbhum, Patiram Manjhi (also known as Anal Da), a Maoist Central Committee member, and several others were killed. The operation was considered a major success for Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Surrenders And Arrests Mark Progress In The Campaign
Along with security operations, surrender and rehabilitation initiatives have also contributed to reducing Maoist influence. In May 2026, 27 Maoists surrendered in Jharkhand under Operation Navjeevan. The group included members of CPI(Maoist) and Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad. The state government has also highlighted rehabilitation support, including financial assistance, training opportunities, and educational support for the children of those who surrender
Peace and development are still very important objectives
Enhanced security can open up more development possibilities in remote and previously affected areas. Improving access to roads, healthcare, education and government services will enable these areas to become more integrated with mainstream development. The role of police and paramilitary forces has continued to be crucial in bringing peace and order through various forms of rehabilitation and development.
