JK Encounter: Two soldiers were killed in action today during separate encounters with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district. Security forces subsequently neutralized four terrorists, while four others are believed to be hiding.
The encounters began following specific intelligence about the presence of terrorists at two locations in the district.
Modergam Village Encounter
In Modergam village, a massive assault was launched by joint forces of the CRPF, Army, and local police on a target house where at least two terrorists were suspected to be hiding. During the operation, troops came under heavy terrorist fire, resulting in the death of one soldier. Despite the immediate response by the forces and the swift establishment of a cordon around the village, the situation escalated, leading to the soldier's injury and subsequent death during treatment.
Frisal Area Encounter
In another encounter in Kulgam's Frisal area, drone footage captured the aftermath of a fierce gun battle that left four terrorists dead. One army soldier was killed in action, and another was injured during the confrontation. The bodies of the terrorists could not be retrieved due to heavy fire from the target site. Security forces suspect that two more terrorists are still present at the encounter site.
Surge in Terrorist Activities
The region has recently witnessed a surge in terrorist activities, with several encounters reported across different districts of Jammu and Kashmir. Last month, security forces successfully neutralized three terrorists in the Gandoh area of district Doda. The increasing frequency of these encounters highlights the ongoing challenges faced by security forces in maintaining peace and stability in the region.
