AIIMS Doctors successfully create woman’s new food pipe in rare surgery

A team of doctors from Bhopal AIIMS has successfully performed the operation of making a new alimentary canal of the woman after the operation which lasted for 540 minutes. The woman admitted in AIIMS Bhopal had consumed toilet cleaner at home. The woman’s food pipe (esophagus) was seriously damaged by its consumption.

AIIMS-Bhopal shared this information by sharing the post on Twitter. It was written in tweet that a team of doctors from AIIMS, Bhopal has recently miraculously succeeded in creating a new food pipe by performing a rare and difficult operation. A woman had consumed toilet cleaner in her house, which seriously damaged her esophagus.

It was informed by AIIMS that due to toilet cleaner, the woman’s food pipe was severely burnt and her food pipe was completely closed. This affected his stomach as well. She was unable to swallow anything through her mouth.

According to information given on Twitter, the woman was unable to swallow water or even her own saliva. This condition is called difficulty swallowing or dysphagia. During this time she was dependent on feeding through a tube (feeding jejunostomy) for survival. In this process, liquid food is passed directly into the small intestine.

Food pipe reopened after 10 months

A team of doctors from the departments of Surgical Gastroenterology and ENT evaluated the woman’s health. After extensive consultation with the patient and family members, surgery was planned to create a new food pipe. After 10 months her food pipe is open again.

Dr Vishal Gupta, head of the Department of Surgical Gastroenterology, who led the operation, said the patient had not eaten or drunk anything by mouth for the last 10 months. During this, the patient was given food through a feeding tube.
