‘Cheetah project on right track…’ Centre tells SC

The Supreme Court has given a big relief to the Central Government in the matter of frequent deaths of cheetahs in Madhya Pradesh. The central government told the court that there are some problems in the resettlement of cheetahs in the country, but there is nothing to worry about. At the same time, accepting the argument of the Center, the Supreme Court has now closed the hearing of this matter.

Accepting the arguments of the central government, the court also said that there is no reason left to question the government on the project of settling cheetahs in India.

A petition was filed regarding the death of cheetahs

Significantly, 20 cheetahs have been brought from Namibia and South Africa to Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh. Four cubs were born here. Of these, 6 leopards and 3 small cubs have died. The petition was filed under this case.

What did the central government say?

Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati told a three-judge bench headed by Justice BR Gavai that a lot of preparations have been done to resettle the cheetahs. About 12 to 14 cheetahs will be brought every year. There are some issues but nothing like worrying. At the same time, on the death of cheetahs, some experts have also considered the radio collar used on cheetahs. While the government dismissed the allegations as without scientific evidence and as rumours.

At the same time, the Supreme Court said that no other reason was found to disbelieve the statements of the Center, and the Court said that the project should be left to the discretion of the experts of the field instead of the judiciary.
