Israel-Palestine Conflict: Indian Student in Israel Caught in Crossfire of Ongoing Conflict

Israel-Palestine Conflict: Swati Sirothia, an Indian student from Tikamgarh district in Madhya Pradesh, is currently trapped in Israel amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas. Swati has been studying in Israel since 2020, pursuing a Master of Science (MSc) in Agriculture. Her expected return home after completing her degree has been disrupted due to the recent hostilities that began on October 7 when Hamas launched an attack on Israel.

Swati is enrolled at the Hebrew Agricultural University of Jerusalem and has been living in Israel for her studies, away from her family in India. Her academic journey took her back to Israel in November after a brief return home in October of the previous year. She was due to complete her degree in October this year, but the current conflict has cast uncertainty over her safety and her return to India.

Local authorities in Madhya Pradesh are in contact with Swati’s family and are providing assistance. They are also working with diplomats to ensure Swati’s safe return to India.

Swati’s family expressed concern about her safety and the challenges she faces while staying in Jerusalem hostels. Swati, like many others, must rush to the bunkers within minutes when air raid sirens sound, seeking refuge from potential danger.

A flight ticket has been booked for Swati’s return to India on October 16. However, the volatile situation has led to concerns as several of Swati’s friends had their flights canceled due to the ongoing conflict.
