Madhya Pradesh Targets Top Position in Milk Production, Says CM Mohan Yadav

Authorities added that milk procurement prices have been increased by ₹2.50 to ₹8.50 per litre.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav reviewed the functioning of the Animal Husbandry and Dairy Department and directed senior officials to intensify efforts to make the state the leading milk producer in the country.

During the review meeting, the Chief Minister said the state has achieved success in increasing the popularity of the Sanchi dairy brand and emphasized the need to further strengthen the dairy sector.

Mohan Yadav: Madhya Pradesh Currently Ranked Third in Milk Production

Officials informed the meeting that Madhya Pradesh is currently producing around 617 lakh kilograms of milk per day, placing it among the top milk-producing states in India.

The state also recorded an average daily milk collection of approximately 9.67 lakh kilograms. Authorities stated that 1,752 new dairy cooperative societies have been formed to strengthen milk procurement and support dairy farmers.

Dairy Infrastructure Expansion Underway

The government highlighted several infrastructure development initiatives in the dairy sector, including modernization of the Gwalior dairy plant and revival of the Shivpuri dairy plant.

Officials also stated that a milk powder plant with a processing capacity of 3 lakh litres per day has been established in Indore to expand dairy processing capabilities in the state.

Increase in Payments and Dairy Product Sales

According to government data, milk producers received payments worth ₹1,609 crore during the 2025-26 financial year. Authorities added that milk procurement prices have been increased by ₹2.50 to ₹8.50 per litre.

The state also reported growth in dairy product sales, with ghee sales increasing by 17 percent, while products such as paneer, curd, buttermilk, and flavoured milk also recorded higher demand.

Focus on Dairy Sector Growth

The Madhya Pradesh government has been promoting dairy development as part of broader rural economic and agricultural growth initiatives. Officials believe strengthening dairy cooperatives, processing infrastructure, and farmer support systems can boost rural incomes and expand employment opportunities in the sector.
