In a major step towards improving food security and transparency, the Madhya Pradesh government will roll out a Smart Public Distribution System (PDS) from June 1, 2025. The new digital platform aims to make ration distribution more transparent, fair, and tamper-proof, ensuring food grains reach only eligible beneficiaries.

Madhya Pradesh to Launch Smart PDS From June 1, e-KYC Mandatory for Ration Access

As part of the system’s integration, the government has urged all ration card holders to complete their electronic Know Your Customer (e-KYC) process. So far, 80% of beneficiaries have successfully completed e-KYC, while the rest have been given a final deadline of May 31. Those who fail to comply may face interruptions in ration supply after the launch of the Smart PDS.

Under the new system, ration will be provided only to beneficiaries who have completed the e-KYC (electronic Know Your Customer) process linked to their ration cards and Aadhaar numbers. Government officials have confirmed that nearly 80% of ration card holders in the state have already completed this digital verification.

Officials said the Smart PDS will digitally track the movement

Officials said the Smart PDS will digitally track the movement and delivery of food grains, reduce leakages, and help curb fraud or duplication in ration allocation. It is also designed to support the “One Nation One Ration Card” (ONORC) initiative, enabling beneficiaries to access ration from any state in India, regardless of their home state.

The digital system will also allow real-time monitoring by the central government, enhancing accountability and ensuring equitable distribution across states. The move is being seen as a significant reform to strengthen the country’s food distribution network and improve service delivery.

The Madhya Pradesh government has set up help centers and online facilities to assist families in completing their e-KYC. Authorities have advised beneficiaries not to wait until the last minute and to complete the process to avoid disruption in their ration benefits post-June 1.
