MP News: Madhya Pradesh's Safe Tourism Destination for Women (STDW) Project, spearheaded by the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board (MPTB) under the Responsible Tourism Mission, is set to be adopted by five states across India. The project aims to enhance the safety and security of women at tourist destinations, fostering positive behavioral changes towards women travelers.
Kerala has already commenced the implementation of the project, while Maharashtra, West Bengal, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh are gearing up to implement it soon, as confirmed by a Board official.
Union Ministry of Tourism Advocates Safety Measures for Women Tourists Nationwide
Manisha Saxena, the Director General of the Union Ministry of Tourism, recently addressed principal secretaries of tourism in all states, urging them to formulate and submit innovative proposals for enhancing the safety of women tourists. These proposals align with the Nirbhaya Framework guidelines and aim to ensure the safety and security of women and girls visiting tourist destinations. The project receives partial funding from the Nirbhaya Fund allocated by the Government of India, with a funding ratio of 60:40 between the Centre and the states, respectively.
Impressive Progress of the Safe Tourist Places for Women Project in Madhya Pradesh
According to the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board, the Safe Tourist Places for Women project, launched on November 18, 2021, operates across 50 tourist places within 20 clusters in the state. The project's objectives include training 10,000 women, out of which over 7,000 have already received training in 48 different job roles across eight sectors. Additionally, self-defense training has been provided to 37,000 girls, women, and students out of the targeted 40,000.
