MP News– In a landmark initiative, the world's first river-linking project, the "Ken-Betwa Link National Project," is set to transform the arid landscapes of Bundelkhand into fertile and prosperous lands. This ambitious project aims to bring water to every field and every household in the region, addressing the long-standing issue of water scarcity.

The Ken-Betwa Link Project, a pioneering river interlinking initiative, promises to rejuvenate Bundelkhand, a region historically plagued by drought. The project involves the construction of a dam and a canal system that will transfer surplus water from the Ken River to the water-deficient Betwa River basin, thereby ensuring a consistent water supply throughout the year.

Key Highlights of the Ken-Betwa Link Project:

  1. Water Security for Agriculture: The project is expected to irrigate approximately 10.62 lakh hectares of land, providing much-needed water to the farmers of Bundelkhand. This will enhance agricultural productivity and ensure food security in the region.
  2. Drinking Water Supply: In addition to irrigation, the project will supply drinking water to nearly 62 lakh people across the region. This will significantly improve the quality of life and health standards in Bundelkhand.
  3. Boost to Local Economy: With reliable water supply, the project is anticipated to stimulate economic activities, increase employment opportunities, and promote sustainable development in the region.
  4. Environmental Benefits: The project includes afforestation and soil conservation measures, which will help restore the ecological balance and improve biodiversity in the area.

The Ken-Betwa Link National Project has been hailed as a visionary step towards addressing water scarcity and enhancing the resilience of Bundelkhand against drought. Local communities and farmers have expressed hope and optimism, seeing this initiative as a pathway to a brighter and more prosperous future.

As the project progresses, it stands as a testament to innovative solutions in water management and inter-regional cooperation. Bundelkhand, once known for its parched lands and water woes, is set to become a model of sustainable development and water resource management.
