Prime Minister Narendra Modi has officially laid the foundation for the Ken-Betwa Link Project, a transformative initiative set to benefit the people of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. The project aims to address the region's water needs by providing irrigation for farmers and drinking water for urban areas. This milestone marks a significant step toward realizing the ambitious river-linking vision across India.
Speaking at the event, PM Modi emphasized that the Ken-Betwa Link Project would play a pivotal role in shaping Bundelkhand's development. He expressed optimism about Madhya Pradesh emerging as one of the leading economies in the country, with Bundelkhand contributing significantly to this growth. "Water is integral to everyone's life, and this crowd's blessings signify the importance of this initiative," he remarked.
Ambedkar's Contributions to Water Management
PM Modi also credited Dr. B.R. Ambedkar for his pioneering contributions to India's water management strategies. He highlighted Ambedkar's foresight in establishing the Central Water Commission and initiating large-scale river valley projects post-independence. Modi criticized previous governments for neglecting Ambedkar's role, focusing instead on crediting a single individual for national achievements.
The Prime Minister underscored that water disputes among states and the broader significance of river water for India's development were first addressed by Ambedkar. "His vision laid the foundation for India’s water resource management, yet his contributions were suppressed in favor of glorifying others," he said.
A Transformational Project for Bundelkhand
The Ken-Betwa Link Project symbolizes hope for water-scarce Bundelkhand, offering sustainable solutions for irrigation and drinking water. By linking rivers, the project aligns with the government’s long-term goals of resolving water crises and ensuring equitable resource distribution.
The initiative is also expected to enhance regional infrastructure and boost agriculture, laying a strong foundation for a developed Madhya Pradesh and contributing to the vision of a prosperous India.
