Manipur clashes: 50-year-old woman shot dead by armed men, face disfigured

Manipur clashes: A woman in her 50s was reportedly shot dead and her face disfigured by armed miscreants in Sawombung area of Manipur’s Imphal East district. The woman has been identified as Lucy Marim Maring. She was allegedly shot in her face at her residence in  Beaulahram village, Pallel Game Village, Zone-3 in Manipur by some armed men. Her face was later disfigured suggested reports. 

Probe underway 

After the woman was shot dead by armed men, a search and raid in the area and neighbourhood was carried out by the personnel of Manipur Police. So far, nine people have been arrested. Later, the houses of these accused were burnt down by an agitated mob.

Manipur Police took to official Twitter hand to inform that nine people, including five women, have been arrested in connection with the killing of the woman in the Keibi Heikakmapal Maning Ching area. The police have also recorded the statements of people around the incident area. Two weapons, five rounds of ammunition and a car were seized from the accused.

The deceased woman was reportedly suffering from mental health issues. She belonged to the Maring Naga community.

Manipur clashes 

At least 150 people have been killed while several hundred have been injured in the ethnic clashes in the state.  The clash erupted on May 3 in the north-eastern state between the Meitei people, and Kuki community. Approximately, 55,000 people have been displaced, internally.
