Mainpuri Musician Murder: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh has formally written to Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta following the death of 54-year-old musician Chongtham Vikram Singh, who was allegedly assaulted outside his Ashram residence after objecting to noise from a group of men. Singh succumbed to his injuries at Holy Family Hospital on Monday. Police have arrested seven men and apprehended a juvenile in the case.

“In view of the gravity of the situation, I earnestly request your personal intervention to ensure that the investigation is conducted in a fair, transparent, and time-bound manner under the direct supervision of senior police leadership,” CM Khemchand Singh wrote.
He also demanded stringent prosecution of all perpetrators, urged consideration of transferring the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) if needed, and called for visible confidence-building measures in localities with large Northeast populations.
Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi Question Police Response
Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi expressed condolences to Singh’s family and questioned the Union Home Ministry and Delhi Police over what he called growing lawlessness affecting people from the Northeast.
“A father, killed outside his own home, in his own country’s capital,” Rahul Gandhi said, adding that Northeast families in Delhi were now questioning their safety.
Priyanka Gandhi has also previously raised concerns over the Centre’s handling of security issues affecting Manipur and its diaspora.
