PM Modi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Global Fintech Fest (GFF) 2026 in Mumbai on September 8, marking his third appearance at the event. The four-day gathering, running through September 11, brings together policymakers, regulators, financial institutions and innovators under the theme “Potential to Impact: Agentic AI, Tokenisation, Quantum.”

Four Pillars for India’s Fintech Future

Modi said Agentic AI, tokenisation and quantum computing are opening new possibilities in finance, but the real challenge is converting that potential into impact. He outlined four priorities for the industry: building top-notch cybersecurity, establishing ethical data protection standards, creating a stronger fintech regulator-industry innovation ecosystem, and launching a fintech consumer protection index to rate companies transparently on trust and reliability.

India’s Growth Story and UPI’s Global Reach

Highlighting India’s 7.8% GDP growth, Modi said the figure inspires global trust at a time of economic uncertainty. He pointed to the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) as a cornerstone of Digital India’s success, noting over 2,400 crore UPI transactions were recorded last month alone, with the system now live in 11 countries and expanding steadily.

What to Expect at Global Fintech Fest 2026

PM Modi: Now in its seventh edition since launching in 2020, GFF 2026 aims to position Mumbai as India’s Fintech Capital. Sessions across the four days will explore how agentic AI, programmable finance and quantum technologies can build trusted, connected financial systems, alongside discussions on reducing cross-border remittance costs, deepening global collaboration, and expanding financial inclusion for underserved populations worldwide.
