Manish Sisodia bail plea in Excise case squashed by Delhi High Court

Manish Sisodia: On Monday, the Delhi Court rejected bail plea of Former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia. Sisoida was seeking bail in Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) case over the now scrapped Delhi excise policy. The verdict on petition was delivered by Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma who also dismissed bail pleas of Binoy Babu Binoy (M/S Pernod Ricard, liquor company manager), ex-communication in charge of Aam Aadmi Party Vijay Nair and Telangana based Abhishek Boinpally in connection with the case.

Sisodia’s arrest

Manish Sisodia was first arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI) on February 26 for his alleged involvement in the scam. The AAP leader has been in custody since then and on May his bail in the CBI case was rejected by the Delhi High Court.

Sisodia is presently in Judicial custody since his arrest by the ED on March 9. As for the charges against Sisodia CBI and ED have alleged irregularities in modifying the excise policy and favoritism in granting extension to some of the license holders.

Sisodia has sought bail on many grounds including deteriorating health of his wife because of multiple sclerosis.

Multiple pleas rejected

Manish Sisodia had challenged March 31 order of the trial court who rejected his plea by stating that he was the main architect and culprit behind the scam and played most vital role in criminal conspiracy pertaining to advance kickbacks of Rs 90-100 crore, that were allegedly meant for Sisodia and his colleagues in AAP.

On May 30, the court dismissed the bail plea of Sisodia in the excise policy scam. The court noted that Manish Sisodia could easily impact the case because of his connections and potentially influence witnesses.

The policy was implemented by Delhi government in 2021 but was withdrawn in September last year in face of mounting corruption allegations.
