Meghalaya Assembly Polls: Sohiong constituency’s candidate HDR Roy Lyndoh passes away, elections to be held in 59 states

Meghalaya Assembly Polls: The Assembly polls in Meghalaya will take place in 59 seats with the sudden demise of UDP’s Sohiong candidate, H. Donkupar Roy Lyngdoh. Election to Sohiong constituency in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills district has been deferred following his passing away.

HDR Lyngdoh passes away

HDR Lyngdoh died on Monday after he suddenly collapsed during election campaigning. He was rushed to hospital but did not survive. He was contesting in the upcoming Assembly polls which will take place on February 27 from the Sohiong constituency. Election in Meghalaya will now take place for 59 seats as the date for Sohiong constituency has been deferred.

“HDR Lyngdoh, a candidate of Sohiong constituency, died in hospital after cardiac arrest. Poll process is likely to be adjourned in the constituency,” Chief Electoral Officer FR Kharkongor told PTI. 

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma pays tribute 

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma took to Twitter to. Offer his condolences post the demise of H D R Lyngdoh and also remembered his contribution to the  state. 

“Saddened by the sudden demise of former Minister and senior politician of the state, Shri H D R Lyngdoh. Shri Lyngdoh served the Staten different capacities over the years and was a dedicated leader to the people. His demise is a great loss to Meghalaya. May his soul rest in peace,” he said in a tweet.
