MPs of India Alliance Unite in Solidarity, Plans To Wear Black Attire in Parliament to Protest Against Manipur Issue

Manipur Violence

Members of the Opposition’s INDIA bloc in Parliament are planning to wear black attire on Thursday as a form of protest against the government’s handling of the Manipur issue. The Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) has instructed all its MPs to don black clothing to express dissatisfaction with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s failure to address the Manipur situation during Parliamentary sessions. A no-confidence motion against the government, presented by the Congress on behalf of the opposition alliance, has been accepted by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. However, the date for the motion’s discussion will be determined after consultations with party leaders.

The Opposition has a history of resorting to wearing black as a symbolic gesture to voice their dissent on various government-related matters. The main demand of the Opposition is for Prime Minister Modi to make a statement on the Manipur issue in Parliament before any debate can proceed. As the opposition and the ruling bench members remain firm in their stances, it has led to a deadlock in both houses of Parliament during the ongoing Monsoon session, which is scheduled to conclude on August 11.

160 People Lost Their Lives

The Manipur issue has been a cause for concern as more than 160 people have lost their lives, and hundreds more have been injured due to ethnic violence that began on May 3. The Opposition’s action of wearing black clothes is intended to draw attention to this crisis and press the government to take prompt action.
