Nitish Kumar: Sitting Bihar Chief Minister and Janata Dal (United) supremo Nitish Kumar in his 10th term as Bihar CM is likely to file his nomination for the election of Rajya Sabha today. The development is likely to see the first Chief Minister from the Bharatiya Janata Party in the state.
Nitish Kumar-Major Political Transition
Nitish Kumar is likely to visit the State Assembly of Bihar at 11:30 am today to file his Rajya Sabha nomination. Ramnath Thakur, his party colleague, would also be submitting his nomination as a Janata Dal (United) candidate.
Talks On New Bihar Government On The Cards?
Union Home Minister Amit Shah is likely to reach Patna on Thursday to be personally present at the time of Rajya Sabha nomination filings. A meeting between Nitish Kumar, Amit Shah and other leaders of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is likely after the nomination process.
DON'T MISS
It is widely believed that discussions on the best formula for forming a new state government would be on the cards. JDU may receive 2 deputy chief minister posts while the BJP could lead the state government in Bihar.
According to political experts, JDU party leaders are not completely happy with decision of Nitish . Sources have claimed that Nishant Kumar, the son of Nitish, has outrightly rejected any political post for himself. However, many believe that Nishant may don the role of Bihar Deputy CM.
Nitish would stay as the Bihar CM until the Rajya Sabha elections that are scheduled for March 16, 2026. Interestingly, Nitish may achieve a rare distinction if he is selected for the Rajya Sabha seat. Previously, Nitish has been a member of the Legislative Assembly of Bihar, the Lok Sabha and the Bihar Legislative Council. A Rajya Sabha seat would make Nitish a member of all four legislative forums, both Houses of Parliament and both Houses of the Bihar legislature.
