Patna News: The Bihar government has become embroiled in a controversy concerning the naming of a park. The issue revolves around the renaming of Patna’s Coconut Park to Atal Bihari Vajpayee Park and subsequently reverting back to its original name, Coconut Park. The situation is far from simple, with protests adding complexity to the matter.

Park’s name changed yet again

On Monday, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched a strong criticism against the Nitish Kumar government. This came after a park in Patna, Bihar, which had been originally named after the late former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, underwent a name change to “Coconut Park.” Tej Pratap Yadav, the Forest and Environment minister of Bihar, decided to change the name of Atal Bihari Vajpayee Park in Patna’s Kankarbagh area to “Coconut Park.”

Originally known as Coconut Park, the park’s name was changed to Atal Bihari Vajpayee Park after the passing of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in 2018. However, the Bihar government has now opted to revert to its original name, Coconut Park.

BJP slams the government

BJP Spokesperson Arvind Kumar Singh said, “On one hand, Nitish Kumar garlands the memorial of Vajpayee ji and, on the other hand, Tej Pratap Yadav has changed the name of the park. This is a two-tone government. BJP opposes this and the party demands that the name of this park not be changed.”

Even though the name of the park has been changed back to Coconut Park, the signboard of Atal Bihari Vajpayee Park is still in place outside the park, and the statue of Vajpayee continues to be located within the park. As of now, no changes have been implemented to modify these aspects.
