Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin’s recent letter has triggered a fierce political battle, stretching from Chennai to Delhi. The letter, addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has drawn sharp reactions from Union Ministers and state leaders alike. At the heart of the controversy is Tamil Nadu’s demand for education funds and its opposition to the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the three-language policy.

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan Slams MK Stalin’s Letter

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan strongly criticised MK Stalin’s letter, calling it politically motivated. He remarked, “I came to know through social media that Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin has written a letter to PM Modi. This letter is based on imaginary concerns and is not in good faith. It was written for political gains.”

According to Pradhan, the Centre has always supported Tamil Nadu’s education system, but the state government is misrepresenting facts for its own advantage.

Udhayanidhi Stalin’s Sharp Response

Tamil Nadu Deputy CM Udhayanidhi Stalin, who is also MK Stalin’s son, hit back at Dharmendra Pradhan’s remarks. He clarified that Tamil Nadu is not playing politics but simply asking for its rightful financial support.

Udhayanidhi Stalin talking to media said, "We are asking for our financial rights, which is to be given to people of Tamil Nadu. We are asking for educational funds for students of Tamil Nadu. They were giving funds of Rs 2,150 crores for these many years but now they are saying we should accept NEP, three-language policy."

He further said, "Tamil Nadu has always been against three-language policy. We have said clearly that we will never accept that...What is politics in this? I don't understand."

What’s in MK Stalin’s Letter to PM Modi?

CM MK Stalin’s letter primarily focuses on the release of funds under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA). He expressed concern over the Centre’s decision to link SSA funding with the implementation of NEP 2020 and the three-language policy.

In his letter, MK Stalin asked, “How is it fair that Tamil Nadu’s students will receive education funds only if NEP 2020 is fully implemented? Are Tamil people's sentiments not respected? Is it right to stop education funds by merging two separate projects? The Centre must understand the seriousness of this issue and immediately release ₹2,152 crore for Tamil Nadu.”
