Punjab Police detains Khalistani leader Amritpal Singh

Khalistani leader Amritpal Singh was arrested in Punjab’s Moga district on Saturday after an hour-long high-speed chase carried by Punjab Police with the help of central paramilitary forces. The Punjab Police launched action against the Sikh separatist leader today morning with Union Home Ministry and Punjab government closely monitoring the situation.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Union Home Minister on March 2 and had sought additional forces to maintain law and order situation in the state.

Punjab’s action plan to detain Amritpal Singh

As many as 50 vehicles chased Amritpal Singh when he was on his way to Jalandhar. He has been on run since he led a massive protest in Punjab after the arrest of his key aide. The police had been tracking his location and nabbed him after tracing his latest location near Shahkot.

Amritpal Singh, who was at the centre of a massive protest against the arrest of his key aide last month, is on the run from the Punjab Police, sources said. The police followed him while he was being driven in a convoy to Jalandhar.

Mobile internet services suspended in Punjab

Mobile internet services have been suspended in several districts of Punjab and the curbs will continue till tomorrow.

“All mobile internet services, all SMS services (except banking and mobile recharge) and all dongle services provided on mobile networks, except voice call, in the territorial jurisdiction of Punjab shall be suspended from March 18 (12:00 hours) to March 19 (12:00 hours) in the interest of public safety,” an order by Punjab’s Department of Home Affairs and Justice read.
