Bhagwant Mann: As part of its intensified statewide anti-drug अभियान ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’, the Punjab Police on Monday arrested 72 drug smugglers and recovered a large quantity of narcotics and drug money from their possession. The crackdown was carried out across multiple locations in the state under the supervision of the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF).

During the operation, police teams seized 26.4 kg of heroin, 772 intoxicant tablets and capsules, and ₹12.17 lakh in drug money. Officials said the recoveries highlight the continued aggressive action being taken against drug trafficking networks operating in Punjab.
Over 48,000 Held So Far
With the latest arrests, the total number of drug smugglers apprehended has reached 48,331 within just 345 days, reflecting the scale and consistency of the campaign. Punjab Police stated that daily intelligence-based raids and coordinated operations are being conducted to dismantle the entire drug supply chain.
Alongside strict enforcement, the campaign also focuses on rehabilitation and social reform. As part of the de-addiction drive, 21 individuals were persuaded to undergo de-addiction and rehabilitation treatment on the same day, reinforcing the government’s dual approach of enforcement and recovery.
Senior officials reiterated that the Punjab Police, under the guidance of the Bhagwant Mann-led state government, remains fully committed to eradicating the drug menace, breaking trafficking networks, and ensuring a drug-free Punjab. The campaign continues to combine strong policing with community outreach and rehabilitation to address the problem holistically.
